Our Club's Child Safety Statement of Commitment
At Jazz Netball Club Inc we are committed to ensuring the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of all children and youth involved in our Club. We uphold a zero-tolerance approach to harm, misconduct and abuse and recognise our shared responsibility to create safe inclusive and supportive environments for every child and young persons.
Jazz Netball Club has a legal and moral responsibility to ensure the safety of all members particularly children and young persons. We are bound by the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 and the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Regulations 2001. Every person within Jazz Netball Club is bound by this Statement of Commitment and must always place the safety and welfare of children and young persons above all other considerations.

Jazz Netball Club acknowledges the valuable contributions made by our members and volunteers to the positive experience of our club teams, umpires, players, managers, committee members and spectators/supporters. We are committed to ensuring these experiences continue in a safe, nurturing and respectful environment. As part of our commitment to children and young people safety Jazz Netball Club implements the following measures:
We are committed to keeping Children/Young people safe

Through the Netball Australia Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy we document commitment to keeping children/young people safe from abuse and neglect.

We take a risk-based approach to ensure activities are Child/Young Person safe And will undertake regular risk assessment for activities that may involve contact with Children/Young Persons

We communicate our commitment to our volunteers, coaches, players, parents, umpires and others involved with the Jazz Netball Club and give them access to our Statement of Commitment.

We promote equity and respect diversity

We actively anticipate Children/Young People’s diverse circumstances and respond effectively to those with additional vulnerabilities.

We give all Children/Young People access to information, support and a complaints process.

We consider the needs to all Children/Young people particularly First Nations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children/Young People, Children/Young People with a disability, LGBTQI Children/Young People and Children/Young People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

We will seek to consider and involve Children/Young People in decisions that affect them and provide them information about their rights.
Our members and volunteers know the behaviour we expect

We ensure each person involved in our Club and the delivery of coaching, umpiring, playing and mentoring understands the behaviour we expect in relation to keeping Children/Young People safe from abuse and neglect through the application of Child Safe Practices.

We have child safe practices which are endorsed by Netball Australia (NA) Netball Queensland (NQ), and PRNA.

All members of Jazz Netball Club are given access to our Child Safe Practices.

Our members (as far as practicable), in writing, have read and understand our Child Safe Practices.

​​We minimise the likelihood of recruiting a person who is unsuitable

We have appropriate measures in place to minimise the likelihood of recruiting an unsuitable person into a role within Jazz Netball Club.

We will meet the requirements of the Blue Card regulations within Queensland.

We will provide volunteers, coaches, players, parents, umpires and others involved with Jazz Netball Club information about our commitment to child safety including our Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy, our Child Safe practices and responding to neglect and abuse.

We support ongoing training and support for volunteers, coaches, players, parents, umpires and others involved with the club to ensure child safe information is provided as required or updated.

Our Volunteers understand their responsibilities and for reporting Child/Young Person Abuse

We endorse and follow the NA, NQ and PRNA policies for responding to Child/Young People abuse and complaints and understand it applies to volunteers, coaches, players, parents, umpires and others involved with the club. These people must:

Immediately report abuse or neglect and any concerns regarding breaches of policy or practices or the behaviour of our volunteers.

Meet any legislative requirements to report Child/Young Person neglect of abuse.

Follow the Pine Rivers Netball Association process for reporting neglect or abuse.

Our volunteers, coaches, players, parents, umpires and others involved with the club are given access to the Pine Rivers Netball Association complaints, dispute resolution process and understand the policy as it applies to their position.

We document any disclosure any allegation, disclosure or concern of Child/Young Person neglect or abuse.

We have assigned responsibility for reviewing and maintain and improving our policies and practices to the committee of Jazz Netball Club.

We monitor our volunteers, coaches, players, parents, umpires and others involved with the club to ensure appropriate practice and behaviour are followed.

We require our volunteers, coaches, players, parents, umpires and others involved with the club to disclose convictions relevant to working with Children/Young People.

Through Pine Rivers Netball Association NQ and NA we provide information on Safeguarding Children/Young People and the recruitment and screening requirements of membership of the club, affiliation requirements and accreditation programs for volunteers.

Using social media channels promote the relevant policies and practices relating to Child-Safe practices and policies.

Promoting on all available mediums information about Child Safe Practices, making a complaint and feedback.

Jazz Netball Club takes all breaches of this Child Safety Commitment seriously. Any failure to comply with our policies, Codes of Conduct or child safety expectations will be addressed through a fair and confidential process. This may involve internal investigation, disciplinary action of external authority where necessary. All breaches are reviewed to support ongoing improvement in our child safety practices. No person will be victimised for reporting concerns, and the privacy of all parties will be respected. If any person bound by this statement of commitment reasonably suspects that a child is being harmed by a parent or carer they are advised to contact the Queensland Police Service. We reaffirm the safety of children and young people is the foundation of our culture and is at the heart of everything we do.
